Natural Gas Vehicles – Creating a Revolution in Transport
With the environmental, economical and energy security benefits of natural gas vehicles now well proven, the NGV industry is beyond the ‘pioneering phase’ and has entered a period of sustainable growth. In many markets, NGV penetration exceeds 5% of all vehicles, arguably making natural gas a mainstream fuel. How can this be duplicated elsewhere? This opening Plenary Session sets the tone for the rest of the conference, with examples of mainstream success and a business model achieving extraordinary success in niche markets. A Brief Overview of the Status of the Global NGV Industry
World NGV vehicle numbers have increased on average in the past four years by more than 1.5 million each year. This is more than the entire global NGV fleet just ten years ago. In this brief overview, Rich Kolodziej outlines the dynamics of the current market and the factors contributing to the extraordinary momentum of the industry.
Andrew Littlefair – President & CEO, Clean Energy (USA); Chairman, NGVAmerica.
Don’t Sell the Problem – Sell the Solution. A Successful Business Model in Action.
Taking a ‘top down’ approach, targeting high flow users, Clean Energy, North America’s largest supplier of natural gas for transport, has built its business by offering clients practical ‘total package’ solutions to the adoption of natural gas vehicles. While the solutions themselves may differ, the model and philosophy is one that can be duplicated almost anywhere in the world.
Francesco Caria - Commercial Plan and Policy, Asset Development & Management., Eni (Italy); Vice President, IANGV.
A Matter of Balance – The Italian Success Story So Far
Italy boasts a national CNG refuelling network of more than 670 stations and more than 580,000 CNG vehicles on the road. With more than 6% of new cars sold in Italy now natural gas vehicles, Italy’s balance of infrastructure, availability, economics and policy serves as an example for the rest of the world.

The Next 10 Years - Strategies and Tactics to Build the Industry to Scale
With the global natural gas vehicle count exceeding 10 million vehicles, one might think that it is time for the industry to sit back and applaud its efforts. Not so fast. How are we to move the needle into meaningful territory where global auto and truck builders include NGVs in their lineups as a matter of course? Education, Collaboration and Cooperation. With the ever increasing concerns about oil prices and supply and the dramatic prospects for NG supply, our time to shine is now.

Working with Stakeholders to Secure Customers and Create a Market
The typical sales call to a fleet customer interested in purchasing natural gas vehicles usually ends with “I would consider this but there is so much more to it than just buying a new vehicle”. That is the issue faced by our industry throughout the world and there is no easy answer. Unfortunately, all too often, it leads to missed opportunities and customers proceeding to the status quo or path of least resistance. This is why industry MUST collaborate to ensure that the customer is presented with the full value chain – vehicles, incentives, fuelling, aftermarket support, training.

Compelling Cases 101
A brief overview of the highly successful ‘Compelling Case for NGVs’ workshops conducted by CVEF in recent years. These workshops are specifically targeted at fleet operators at a grassroots level to present a compelling case for the switch to natural gas vehicles. In this address, Stephe Yborra outlines the essential elements of a Compelling Case workshop - who to partner with, how to engage them in the project, how and where to find your target market, and how to follow up after the event. Having played a key role in facilitating the world's largest single NGV commitment, 8,000 vehicles for AT&T, Stephe will leave delegates with a clear direction of how to establish similar workshops for fleet operators in their home markets.
Fausto Maranca - President, Argentine Chamber for CNG
Argentina – 25 Years Going from Strength to Strength
In December 2009, Argentina celebrated 25 years since the inauguration of their first CNG fuelling station. In that time, the local NGV industry has thrived, now boasting more than 1.8 million NGVs and over 1800 CNG fuelling stations. The country has also become a dominant supplier to international markets. Surviving harsh local economic crises, the “Camara Argentina del GNC” has been instrumental in helping the industry to both survive and to thrive. Having been part of the Chamber since its inception, and now serving as President for the third time, Mr Maranca will enlighten the audience on some of the Strategic Thinking that has led the Argentine NGV industry to where it is today.

The Adoption of Natural Gas Vehicles in Germany: Exploring Consumers' Attitude and Risk Perception
This presentation concerns the recognition in the field of customer behavior that perceived risk influences the adoption of new and sustainable technologies. In this context, the paper applies basically to the German consumer market, one of the most important automotive markets in the world. Compared to conventional vehicles, NGVs can be considered as new transportation technology. The appliance of the Diffusion of Innovation Theory provides knowledge to investigate consumer’s attitudes towards the adoption of NGVs.
